Greetings! Straight from the dubious Conceptual Art files, I give you Spring Is on the Way. Belgian artist Jan Fabre has suspended condoms full of onions and potatoes from the ceiling of the Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst in Antwerp. The vegetables, as intended, are rotting because this installation is supposed to demonstrate "transformation and metamorphosis." Let me tell you something, I grow a lot of onions and potatoes and when they go bad, they go BAD. It's no surprise to me that patrons and museum staff are complaining about the stench. Hope life smells like a breath of clean, fresh air for you this week!

This comes to you courtesy of the fabulous Kris Hirst, About.com Guide to Archaeology. Most of us learned about Lascaux and Altamira in (probably the first lecture of the first semester of) Art History 101, but I'm not ashamed to admit that a cave named "Uan Muhuggiag" in Libya is news to me. | | Some People Call Me Maurice
I had fun last week writing a bio for Maurice de Vlaminck, for whom we'd published an exhibition gallery last summer (Vlaminck, a Fauvist Instinct, in case you missed it). The only not-so-fun part was getting that lyric stuck in my head and needing to trot out an old Steve Miller LP. | How To Read an Image Caption
Tucked amongst roughly 700 emails regarding the election came a plea for assistance over deciphering copyrights holders in image captioning. Thankfully I had already covered this very thing, which made for a quick reply ... unlike the other 699 personalized "I'm sorry you're bummed out" or "I'm very happy for you" responses. | Sponsored Links | | | | Art History Ads Advertisement | |
