Greetings!

It's that time of year for me when outdoor work starts taking on a frantic pace as the days grow shorter. Firewood? Check. Potato digging? Check. Herb beds cut down for winter? Check. Exhausting--and so not surprising to sit here on mental empty, wondering what to say. Tonight, you may (or may not) thank one of my sons and his World of Warcraft buddies for this artistic video. Thanks from me, guys, for the heads up on painter David Garibaldi and his "Rhythm and Hue" technique.

I hope, if you watch the video, that you get "Fire" out of your head faster than I am managing. Have a great week!

To Every Season ... Turner, Turner, Turner

Beth Gersh-Nesic saw the J. M. W. Turner exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art several times during its stay. The show, which displayed over 140 works, was Turner-tastic in a (literally) large way. Why, then, was it so hard for so many art critics to wax euphoric ... or even enthusiastic? After much careful thought and deliberation, Beth--a Turner fan--may have found the answer.

These images were made available to publicize the Turner show, and they amply illustrate the scope and sequence of the artist's career. As an artist myself, I noticed an interesting trend while looking through the works: Bill was evidently very, very fond of canvases that were 1/3 as long again as they were tall.

J. M. W. Turner Bio

Did you notice I just called Mr. Turner "Bill" rather than James Mallord William? Cheeky of me; only his family and very close friends got away with "Bill." How do I know this? Oh, I am so glad you asked. Research is a beautiful thing...
