Most of my friends have developed some sort of superstition around weight control. Some think that they won't gain weight if they drink eight glasses of water a day. Others swear by exercising on an empty stomach. All believe fully that there's a medical basis for what they're doing. But do they know what they're talking about?

Here's one I know is a lie: You can spot reduce fat. If that were the case, I would have a four-pack. Unfortunately, it's easier to do a bunch of sit-ups than to work cardio into my schedule, so while I might have a four-pack under there somewhere, odds are you're never going to see it.
